Woman fatally shot, teen wounded at West Side party

November 1, 2009

Sun-Times Media Wire

One woman is dead and another was wounded when a man asked to leave an Austin neighborhood party fired shots through the door as he left early Sunday on the West Side.

Jenifer Clark, 24, of the 3200 block of West Crystal Street, was shot on the 5300 block of West Division Street and was pronounced dead at 1:41 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for later Sunday.

The shooting happened about 1:05 a.m. when a man was asked to leave for “rude behavior.” Once outside, the man fired shots through the door, striking Clark and a 16-year-old girl, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

The girl was taken in serious condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with a gunshot wound to the bottom of the left foot, police said.

The party took place at an establishment, and the owner was on the scene when the shooting happened, authorities said. Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
