Trial In Nashville Kidnapping Case Delayed
Posted:June 25, 2010
(AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A federal judge in Nashville has reluctantly agreed to delay the trial of a woman accused of kidnapping a newborn boy.
Tammy Silas, charged with kidnapping a 4-day-old Nashville boy in September, was set to stand trial on Tuesday. The boy was found unharmed three days later at Silas' home in Ardmore, Ala.
Silas told the court Friday that she wanted to go to trial now because of the conditions she faces in the jail where she's being held before trial.
Silas said she was suffering from head lice because of an infestation at the Robertson County Jail and had repeatedly tested positive for having blood in her urine.
Despite Silas' testimony, U.S. District Court Judge Todd Campbell set a new trial date of Jan. 25.
