How high in IQ would be needed to master astrology and cryptograms?

Perhaps he was clever (at least he thought he was) but apart from that had a talent for puzzles, like someone else has a talent for music, or a talent for drawing.

Instead of putting his intillegence and talents into creating something that everyone could enjoy, he chose to use those things to take life and taunt police.

He wasn't as clever as he thought he was....

If he had to use his cleverness to be avoiding the police and playing mind games with them, then he wasn't using that intelligence in a productive way. What a waste.

I guess he thought he was clever though. Maybe that was enough.

Its really sad. Some of these criminals probably have a great contribution to make, but fail to do so because of what they get caught up in. Their choice I guess, but still.

I agree. When You strike at an anonoymous subject, you instantly become a genius. Like Manson. It doesn't make the crime any less dumb. It just takes the cops longer to get to them and they become geniuses because it took them that long to find them. Anonymous victims makes for geniuses in the murder realm.
