Monday, July 20, 2009 Who killed Andre Thomas? Andre Thomas was 17 years old when he was shot and killed Oct. 6, 2007, in Kansas City's Spring Valley Park, near 27th and Euclid. To date, nobody has been found guilty of his murder. His mother, Vickie Springer, is asking anybody with information about Andre's death to contact KCPD or the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS (474-8477). She knows for a fact there are people out there with information, but they're afraid of going to police, says Springer, who got the city to fix the lights and make other improvements at the park after Andre was killed. Andre, who was a few weeks from turning 18 and loved basketball, wasn't a complete innocent, Springer said. "Whatever he did," she said, "he didn’t deserve to die in the manner that he did.” His death has had a huge impact on his five younger siblings, one of whom still requires counseling, she said. Springer says her family left Kansas City after Andre's slaying. "I wasn't going to stay there and lose more children."
