Default Member's Guidlines

Member's Guidlines/Posting Etiquette

The Crimeshots' Administrators would like to offer some guidelines to Crimeshots' members concerning posting etiquette on these forums.

If a member is having difficulty being objective i.e. forgetting that there is a spirit of fairness toward all members, not just any one individual’s needs, that member may want to consider taking a break from Crimeshots', if only temporarily.

Though some of this forum can be viewed by the public, it is a private entity, graciously hosted and administered by volunteers. Members, including moderators and administrators are not paid, but are human beings with their own issues that are no less important.

Be responsible with what you post.

Please respect the views of others even if you think they're wrong. Please be sensitive to their feelings even if they hurt yours. Different points of view are fine, but your freedom of speech should display kindness, empathy and consideration.

If you feel another member is not giving you that consideration by harassment or inappropriate comments posted or PM’d to you, it should be dealt with by contacting Forum Administration or any moderator PRIVATELY.

Before doing so, take a moment to be objective. Count to ten before responding. Understand that maybe like you, other members are feeling sensitive, frustrated or angry. At that time, use your own sensitivity to step back from the negative words written and reach out with compassion.

Default Forum Etiquette

Forum Etiquette

Stay on-topic
Know what's on-topic and what's off-limits. Every newsgroup is a little different in what it talks about, and how it does the talking.

Lurk
Read the newsgroup without posting for a few weeks. This is known as "lurking," and it will give you the flavor of the newsgroup.

DON'T SHOUT
TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING. It's easier to read a mix of upper-and lower-case letters.

Ignore "trolls"
Some people get a thrill from posting "flames" (really obnoxious messages) just to get a rise out of people. Sad, isn't it?

Don't "Spam"
Spam is posting the same message to dozens, even hundreds or thousands of unrelated newsgroups. No matter how important you think your message may be, it's not worth it. Think about it - if everyone posted about every topic, no one would be able to find anything.

Never, ever post "MAKE MONEY FAST"
remember, everyone hates commercials
It doesn't work, it gets people really mad, and no matter what it says, it's probably illegal. Be very hesitant about posting advertisements or commercial messages. This also gets people really mad.

Be Original
Don't over quote: Copying a long post (more than 20 lines) just to add "I agree" or "me too" is considered bad form.

The Golden Rule
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Remember, every "expert" was a newbie once.

More Etiquette Help Dear Emily Postnews...
"Emily Postnews" is a classic, very tongue-in-cheek look at newsgroup and Internet etiquette. Very funny, and a must-read.

Crimeshots© Forum Rules

- BOARD RULES -

PLEASE RESPECT THEM

As a privately owned, moderated message board, we welcome people from all "walks of life" to post here. Unfortunately we also know from experience there always seem to be those select few who join solely with the intention of creating trouble for the serious and sincere members of the board. Some stir up trouble simply for the sake of stirring up trouble. If this describes your motivation for joining, save both yourself and us the time and trouble and go elsewhere. We will not tolerate the mocking of our board, our opinions or our members.

Crude or rude conduct is expressly forbidden. This is a serious discussion board with sincere posters. Posts may be edited for content or deleted at the sole discretion of the moderators/administrators of this message board. Have fun, but not at other users' expense.

In addition to the Member Agreement, topics or posts which do not follow the following guidelines may be edited or deleted altogether.

Take cognizance of forum Categories. There are many to choose from. Keep your posts relevant to the forum theme.

Be gracious to other posters. When someone disagrees with you, by all means discuss it; but please make every effort to be polite, patient, and slow to anger. Remember, when discussing passionate issues, it is easy to go too far and offend or hurt another. If we are earnestly disagreeing with an opinion, it would be unrealistic not to be misunderstood at times. But how we respond is the true test of our character. "ALWAYS taste your words before they leave your mouth."

Personal attacks will not be tolerated. Crimeshots© has an edit button enabled. Once you have posted, read what you wrote. If you think it could in any way offend, go back and edit it. Moderators and Administrators will be visibly proactive in dealing with any potentially offensive material. Flaming, putting other's down etc., all fall into this category. We encourage personal problems with other members be resolved privately via email or PMs. Posts of a violent or threatening nature, either implicitly or explicitly, will be deleted, and the poster's membership will be deleted (no exceptions!).

No trolling! Trolling is when you provoke large volumes of responses by posting absurdities, deliberately offensive insults, etc. This will get you banned so please don't do it.

No spamming! Don't flood the board with commercial posts, irrelevant or otherwise useless material.

No solicitation or advertising of any kind. Do this at EBay.

Use descriptive subject lines This makes it easier for people to see what your post is about. Please do not use another member's screen names in topic titles.

Respect the privacy of others. Do not post phone numbers, home addresses, pictures, etc., without permission. It could get you into serious trouble.

Each person may only have one account. Members using multiple accounts may be banned.

No Copyrighted material. You may only post material written by other if you have their written permission. Any posts containing material we suspect may be copyrighted will be deleted without consultation.

Note: We reserve the right to remove any posts without notice to the author or those who have replied. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate the posting privileges of any registered member without notice.

Alert

How to Avoid Being "Flamed"

"Flaming" refers to the berating of a person in an Internet newsgroup, Web forum or e-mail list by others in the group. Usually, a flame consists of numerous nasty e-mail messages and is provoked, perhaps unwittingly, by its victim's posts.

Follow these simple steps to ensure that your Internet communications are friendly and flame retardant.

Steps:

1. Review the forum's FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) to familiarize yourself with the rules and procedures of the discussion.

2. Scan recent postings to make sure your topic hasn't already been addressed. Newsgroup and Web forum regulars generally find redundant posts extremely irritating (particularly if the topic is addressed in the group's FAQ).

3. Post messages that are relevant to the topic of the forum.

4. Avoid posting advertisements, even if they're related. These are often irritating.

5. Post messages with substance. Avoid posting messages like "Me too" and other empty, uninteresting remarks.

6. Make sure your subject headings are clear and concise. For example, if you want to verify a new e-mail virus alert on an urban legends message board, type "New e-mail virus alert" instead of "Is this real?"

7. Avoid petty insults and irrelevant banter.

8. Respond to a post via e-mail if your message is directed toward an individual rather than all users of the group. Remember that all posts are visible to all users.

9. Avoid flaming back if you're flamed. If you made a mistake to provoke the flame, apologize to the group.

To newbies, the Mods are the best here, and there is no problem expressing yourself at all. A simple rule I follow is, I post as I would like someone to post towards me. I don't take a post personally. Remember, they are only opinions, and like a$$holes, we all have one!!
