1 killed, 4 wounded in separate shootings
By Dan P. Blake | Tribune staff reporter 6:30 AM CST, January 8, 2008 A 28-year-old man was found fatally shot on a South Side street Monday night. A short time later, four men were wounded in gang-related violence a few miles away. The slaying victim, Deonne Gholston, of the 7700 block of South Maryland Avenue, was pronounced dead early this morning after being found in the 9700 block of South Woodlawn Avenue Monday night, authorities said. "Apparently witnesses heard seven to 10 gunshots…and observed the victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head," Chicago Police Officer David Banks said. Witnesses told police that two men in their 20s, described only as wearing dark clothing, were seen fleeing south on Woodlawn. Calumet Area detectives were trying to determine a motive. In separate gun violence, four men were wounded this morning a few miles to the west at 79th and Paulina Streets around 10 p.m., police said. Police did not have conditions on the victims, but said three of the men--a 22-year-old shot in the ankle, an 18-year-old shot in the hip, and another man shot in the thigh--were expected to survive. The fourth victim was being treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with wounds to the leg and abdomen. He was thought to be in serious condition. "It does appear to be gang-related," Banks said. The shooters "came up on them and made a demand of something and the next thing gunshots went off and these guys fell to the ground." Police had no description of the gunmen this morning. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-79street_webjan09,0,3411469.story?coll=chi_tab01_l ayout

Thats awful, and the sad truth is if they all had regular jobs and weren't involved in gangs, we'd have so much more peace within the states.
